Expedia Group sponsors Women of Silicon Roundabout 2018

Jun 18, 2018

Why are Expedia Group sponsoring?

Gender Diversity, and diversity in general, is a subject we’re very passionate about at Expedia Group and we have many initiatives underway to close any gender gap. This conference is an excellent opportunity for us to publicly support the topic and allow the 95 Expedian’s attending to spend time learning about the topic and networking with others.

Another reason we’re sponsoring is branding and recruitment. Expedia Group isn’t just Brand Expedia® but also Hotels.com®, HomeAway®, Egencia®, trivago®, SilverRail™ and Hotwire® amongst many others – the list goes on to include a total of 200+ travel sites across 75 countries!

And did you know that the Expedia, Hotels.com, HomeAway, Expedia Partner Solutions brands all have technology employees here in London and are recruiting?! Our stand at the conference will give attendees a chance to find out about Expedia Group as a whole, our individual brands, our tech stack and the cutting-edge tech travel projects we are currently working on!

What can you expect from Expedia Group at Women of Silicon Roundabout?

It’s testament to the passion and quality of our employees that we have not one, but five speakers at Women of Silicon Roundabout this year. Here’s a sample of who from Expedia Group is speaking, their topic and why you should go to their talk:

Ariane Gorin, President, Expedia® Partner Solutions will be sharing her experience on ‘Why finding your voice and taking risks are career essentials’. ‘Come see my talk if you want to;

  • Get out of your comfort zone
  • Blaze your own Trail
  • Ask for what you want
  • Build your own posse
  • Go for Growth and Challenge’

Mindy Jhakra, Technology Manager, Hotels.com brand will be discussing why ‘Agile’ has become a ‘Dirty Word.‘ ‘I’m talking about the need to adapt to survive in the tech industry. It’s becoming more and more apparent that companies that do not adapt to changes in near real time, end up dying out. Even more interestingly, people who do not adapt, end up struggling. Folks should come see my talk if they are looking for an honest reflection on how we can all do better.’

Alix Fitzgerald, Product Manager, Expedia Group, will be delivering a Soft Skills Seminar on ‘Finding Your Voice. ‘Life looks different to me that it did a while ago and I look different to life. I have been challenged to change everything about how I view life. I can’t claim devastating insight applicable to all, but I can claim to have a perspective on life and life at work that is different. If you’d like to see how life looks from different sides of the gender divide but seen by the same person do drop by.’

Nasreen AbdulJaleel, Director of Technology, Brand Expedia will be sharing her story of building a gender balanced engineering team in Jordan. You will ‘Learn how to hire Tech Talent that will help you build a more diverse team so you can be bold with your hiring goals!’

Denise Jones, Product Manager, Brand Expedia will be asking ‘Are you an Imposter?’ and giving advice on overcoming ‘Imposter Syndrome’. ‘Many people have already heard of Imposter Syndrome- it’s good we’re talking about it. But I’m someone who’s always been confident in who I am, yet I found myself dealing with Imposter Syndrome as a both an expat and a woman in tech. I’m hoping I can offer a different perspective on how insidious and destructive this mindset can be.’

We’re also proud to share that Hannah McGarty, Agile Coach for Hotels.com brand, has been shortlisted for the ‘Mentor of the Year’ award at the WinTech Series Award Ceremony. Hannah’s been nominated for the time and energy she puts into the Hotels.com Graduate and Internship programmes, on top of her day-to-day responsibilities. Not only was she nominated by past and present interns, but Senior Leaders who recognise her work in this area.

There’s many ways to interact with Expedia Group at the conference. We’ll be at stand number B4 where we’ll have a photo booth so you can enjoy documenting your memories of the event and also be in with a chance of winning £250 in Hotels.com vouchers. All you have to do is share your ‘Dream Destination’ on a custom app made by a team of Expedia Group Developers especially for Women of Silicon Roundabout.

So if you’re planning on attending, make sure you drop by our stand, check out our speakers and have a chat with myself or one of the 95 Expedian’s attending the event – we’re looking forward to meeting you!
